VIDEO: A conversation with Cheryl King, EVP of People & CPO

Picture of Cheryl King

Who doesn’t love chatting with a friend? I recently sat down with Cheryl King, the new Chief People Officer for HealthEquity, and it felt like we were just two friends talking over coffee. I’m excited to share this video with you so you can hear Cheryl’s keen insights.

We covered so much ground—what it feels like to be a part of co-creating a positive experience at HealthEquity, why “soft” skills and empathy are in demand, and lots of chit chat on book recommendations, celebrity encounters, and life as a soccer coach. It turns out, yes, you can make time to coach your kids’ teams and lead a large, thriving organization. Both can be true.

Whether you’re an individual contributor or a people manager, you’ll take away practical ideas to improve your team dynamics and gain important nuggets of advice to take control of your career.

Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoyed the conversation with Cheryl as much as I did. While she’s just one of many incredible leaders within HealthEquity, I appreciate the warmth and important change she’s bringing to our organization. I’ll close with a couple reminders from Cheryl’s advice:

  • Remember the power of networking. Gain perspectives from others, connect to professionals in your field, and know that it’s ok to not have all the answers.

  • Work-life balance may be attainable, but you’ll need to work toward it. Setting boundaries—and keeping them—is a great first step.

  • Use your voice and help shape your working experience.

  • No one will care more about your career than you. So, make your interests known, ask for help, and don’t fight feedback you receive—find the truth in the constructive comments and how you can learn from it.
